While we always believe that other person’s company pays better, neighbour’s wife is more beautiful and so on, there are some moments in life when we discover that what we have got is the best. Nitesh Sahu, an MBA interning with us shares his thought on his experiences at WiC
What hooked me up with WiC ?
The very first day when I entered the WiC Office, I had a meeting with the Management team. During this meeting, hearing the insights on the business and vision of WiC, I got instantly excited to know more about the company. I was happy with the openness in company culture and spirit of knowledge sharing prevailing in team WiC.
What fires me up in a typical day ?
A typical day at WiC begins with Scrum (A Standup meeting to get everyone on the same page) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrum_(development)
The Scrum begins with discussing the events across the globe and their relevance to WiC. For about 2 minutes the discussion stimulates our mental software to gear up for top performance during the day. This rejuvenates everybody with positive energy. Once that’s done each one of us answers three questions:
- § “What did I accomplish yesterday?”
- § “What am I planning to accomplish today?”
- § “The problems/stumbling blocks which prevent me from being productive on my task?”
Not only I get connected with everyone in team, I also get to know what excites everybody at work today. In MNCs or bigger functional organizations, they cast your roles and responsibilities the day you join them. Here at WiC, I was asked what was I most passionate about. I am happy, I was given an opportunity to align myself to the responsibilities based on my area of passion. Further I came to know that WiC culture is based on simple principle of giving professionals freedom to pursue one’s areas of passion and produce world class deliverables. When you are plugged into your passion, not only you work efficiently but enjoy every moment of it.
Whats so exciting about WiC ?
To my surprise, the theoretical concepts that we just read and learnt in MBA (1st Year) was being practiced effectively at WiC. We are actually using some of the best tools and techniques which unleash creative thinking ( Free Mind Software for Mind Mapping). Screenr is another tool we use for extreme usability testing. Pomodoro technique and its software to gain tremendous focus. Collaborative tools like Communication tracker are used to foster discussions and convert them into actionable tasks). These make the organizational processes smooth and fast. This is not the end, after this everyday WiC team shares various other ideas which can radically transform businesses and user experiences. Everybody is encouraged to experiment and explore these. Through this sharing everybody tends to learn fast and utilize these tools in their day to day work to make their life easy and be as productive as possible.
The punch line of WiC which states that “Search Share &Ask” is the best example emphasizing the need of sharing.
How does WiC tap into my passion and strength ?
Since I am passionate about International Business Development, I was tasked to work directly with CEO on the standardization of the WiC processes globally. This means, I had to tune the design data acquisition process in Pune in such a manner that it can be easily replicated in any other city globally. I am handling the process in Pune region and simultaneously interacting with another associate of company in Singapore. This person has 9+yrs experience in product management and presently pursuing his MBA from INSEAD. At Singapore he is also designing similar strategy to market the product to retailers. Its great to work in multicultural teams and see how people across the globe are realizing the value WiC can bring. I am happy to make a difference to a process which will seed implementation in another global cities. The mutual interactions and learnings with him have been phenomenal.
What difference am I making ?
WiC is backed by Indian & American Investors who have a vast experience in hi tech business product development. Investors meet once in a week over screen sharing call to decide on fine tuning company strategy. The discussions during these meeting are focused on ideas to get maximum market penetration and get most of the affiliation from various stakeholders. The idea is to create an ever improving resource for product, stores and prices. This I believe is the heart, soul and philosophy of our product. These meeting are the most crucial one and everyone has to do the ground work from his/her side before the meeting so that meeting times are spent exploring better solutions and ideas. Telecall with screen sharing makes us feel we are in the same room. To keep the investors happily engaged is the prime motto of every business . I remember how I helped improve the weekly investor report so that not only they can see the data but they can also see the trends, the areas of concern clearly in visual way. I used all the excel skills I had learnt till date to redesign it. The investors were very happy with the report improvement and its layout. This has now become a standard format for reporting metrics at WiC. I got a lot of appreciation for the same and this motivates me to discover more ways to add value.. Happy to have left a footprint
Am I having a great time at WiC ?
The above scenario itself indicates that at WiC your ideas are heard, evaluated, quickly implemented and you get the credit for it. So I believe, the transparency, the culture and the confidence that Team WiC displays undoubtedly makes WiC an outstanding place to work at. Without any second thoughts I can say that I am having a good time at WiC. You can check some of the pics on https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.336535689739575.77416.117726174953862&type=3 .
